I heard about keto coffee with butter for the first time in a group a couple years ago. My first thought was, what a strange concept to combine coffee and butter! It didn’t sound appealing, but I was curious enough to try it anyway. I am now so happy I did, but I wasn’t in the beginning.
My first attempt at butter coffee with MCT oil was naively stirring it. Needless to say, that was oily and pretty repulsive. In case you didn’t know, blending or frothing it is an absolute must! Doing so emulsifies the fats and gets you that creamy, smooth consistency with a frothy top. Mmm, just like a low carb latte!
So, there are two ways to do this:
- Use a blender. This is the best way to get the bulletproof coffee super frothy! However, the downside is the cleanup – you have to wash a whole blender just to make a cup of coffee. And, if you work in an office, this isn’t a very practical option.
- Use a milk frother. These are perfect for making keto coffee on the go! A milk frother is small, compact, much quieter than a blender, and easier to clean. However, the downside is you don’t get quite as much foam as you do from the blender.
You can use either method – frother or blender. So, what is the better way? You can decide between those two options, because they both work great!
Whatever you do, don’t simply stir your bulletproof coffee, because the result will not be the same.
